D1.1 User Requirements Analysis report identifies and
elaborates on the target user groups and user requirements of
the NOMAD technology and products.
Abstract
The aim of the NOMAD project is to develop and demonstrate
middleware capable of seamlessly integrating available and
future technologies (i.e. UMTS, WLAN) as well as IP
compatible multi-hop ad-hoc networks into a single integrated
platform, employing new algorithms for parallel usage of
multiple access interfaces. Based on this platform, NOMAD
will support transparent service discovery and provision by
the means of an intelligent service discovery and
configuration middleware mechanism. The objective of the user
requirements assessment carried out by NOMAD at the initial
stage was to define the user groups of NOMAD technology, to
produce an insight on business processes and to identify the
requirements of the users of the NOMAD platform.
The key requirements from the side of end-users are related
to usability, lifestyle, privacy & security, and
capability to shop in the Web. Stakeholders (in terms of both
NOMAD project partners, as well as parties interviewed)
actually confirmed the original approach on system concept
and gave the NOMAD WP1 team a chance to further refine it.
One should also note that our findings are quite similar with
results from other projects in this area of 3G/4G mobile
technologies. This fact can be interpreted as a validation
for each other's results. This document presents the results
of WP1 work as far as user groups, & user requirements
are concerned. In the conclusions chapter, the main user
requirements are identified, and the developers view on a set
of design choices that may satisfy these requirements is also
provided Business related processes, the NOMAD value chain
and a proposal on the business model for NOMAD are reported
in deliverable D1.2 - Market & Business Model Survey that
follows this report.
D1.2 Market and Business Model Survey report provides an
overview of the market and a business model to be followed by
NOMAD (organisation, anticipated products and services).
Abstract
The aim of the NOMAD project is to develop and demonstrate
middleware capable of seamlessly integrating available and
future technologies (i.e. UMTS, WLAN) as well as IP
compatible multi-hop ad-hoc networks into a single integrated
platform, employing new algorithms for parallel usage of
multiple access interfaces. The report is providing an
outlook of the state of the art & the market environment
(supply side). It introduces and discusses issues relevant to
a "Wireless World" vision based on the current work of the
Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF). Further the report
describes the evolving value chain in mobile communications,
identifies the key market players and presents proposals on
business modelling from sources like the UMTS forum. Finally
the report, based on an assessment of the aforementioned by
the NOMAD partners during an in depth discussion of the
issues that took place at Helsinki on 10-12/6/2002 (third
consortium meeting) includes a proposal for the business
model to be followed by NOMAD (organisation, anticipated
products and services). This model will be the basis for the
financial study that will be conducted as part of the WP6
activities of the project (dissemination and exploitation
planning) to explore the economical prospects of the NOMAD
technology. It is to be noted that this last part of the
report is confidential and can be only provided, subject to a
"non-disclosure" agreement signature, to interesting parties
- through the project co-ordinator.
D1.3 is a report for a pre-definition of the trial
requirements, which covers different usage scenarios, user
requirements, and the definition of the trials in Bremen and
Basel during the project based on the results of D1.1 and
D1.2.
Abstract
This report is a pre-definition of the trial requirements and
conditions of two trials in Bremen and Basel based on three
different usage scenarios and user requirements based on the
results of D1.1 (Report on User Requirements Analysis) and
preliminary results of D1.2 (Report on Market and Business
Model Survey). This pre-definition is based on the experience
of the consortium at this point of the project. A more
detailed specification of the system will be worked out in
WP2.
